چکیده
LLE Review, Volume 75 151 A critical concern for Nd:glass fusion lasers such as OMEGA and the National Ignition Facility (NIF) is the uniformity of irradiation experienced by the fusion target. Uniform beams are generated by beam-smoothing schemes such as smoothing by spectral dispersion (SSD),1 which vary the instantaneous speckle pattern on target on time scales that are short compared with relevant hydrodynamic time scales. In a simplified picture of beam smoothing, the laser presents a new speckle pattern to the target every coherence time, where the coherence time is given by the inverse of the bandwidth. The beam is smoothed because the target responds hydrodynamically to the average of a large number of independent speckle patterns. The ratio of the coherence time to the relevant hydrodynamic time is thus a key parameter. Alternatively stated, the time required to obtain a given level of uniformity is inversely proportional to the laser bandwidth.

This paper proposes a variable-modulus injectionlocked frequency multiplier for better harmonic suppression. It is more suitable for fully-integrated implementation using low-Q on-chip inductors in digital CMOS than conventional approaches. A prototype dual-modulus frequency doubler/tripler with 1.6GHz input and 3.2GHz/4.8GHz output is implemented in a 0.18 m standard digital CMOS. At 5% lockin...
متن کاملFull 3D modelling of pulse propagation enables efficient nonlinear frequency conversion with low energy laser pulses in a single-element tripler
Although new optical materials continue to open up access to more and more wavelength bands where femtosecond laser pulses can be generated, light frequency conversion techniques are still indispensable in filling the gaps on the ultrafast spectral scale. With high repetition rate, low pulse energy laser sources (oscillators) tight focusing is necessary for a robust wave mixing and the efficien...

Small farms and smallholder farming systems play crucial roles in agricultural development in many developing countries. From the various rural development programs designed to support such farming systems, agricultural extension services are of at most importance. However, the benefit that farmers obtain from these services and the resulting impact depends, to a great extent, by their direct a...

We present the first demonstration of frequency conversion by simultaneous second- and third-harmonic generation in a silicon photonic crystal nanocavity using continuous-wave optical excitation. We observe a bright dual wavelength emission in the blue/green (450-525 nm) and red (675-790 nm) visible windows with pump powers as low as few microwatts in the telecom bands, with conversion efficien...
